Check to See if the DraftKings Sportsbook is Open
What We Know
As a fan, you might already have an account with DraftKings. If you do, the transition to sports betting is going to be very easy. And if you don’t have an account with DraftKings, signing up for one will remain a simple process. You will need an email address, some basic information about yourself, and a way to fund your account. DraftKings accepts various credit cards, PayPal, and balance transfers from your bank. These things are probably not going away. The only difference is that increased safety and scrutiny may be given to account for the legal changes. That’s a good thing because it keeps you, the user, safer.
During this transition time, none of the DFS games that we have come to love will be impacted. That means you can continue playing in your baseball or football league without any loss of services. The only changes that will be coming are additions to the existing site.
Also, there is not yet any word on the stakes that will be offered. Since DraftKings, FanDuel, and the other major DFS sites out there already have a built in clientele, it is likely that the stakes will cater to this same audience. That means both large and small bets will be possible. Many sites in the past have held minimums between $1 and $25, but DraftKings at least is likely to be on the lower end of this.
Potential Issues
There are a number of potential issues that might arise when it comes to using a DFS site as a sports betting site. For one, anyone who felt the immediate impact of the 2006 change in law knows that laws can change over time. There’s a chance that this law will change again, and there’s a chance that your particular state will not allow you to access sports betting. You will need to keep yourself updated in this front, and of course we will be updating you here as we learn more information, too.
Also, after 2006, many users of online casinos and sports books found that their users were unable to withdraw money from third party vendors. This is not likely to be an issue in this case because the reputable sites, like DraftKings and FanDuel, already have completely legitimate funding methods.
And of course, this opens the doors for new types of problem gambling. If you believe that you might have an issue or you know someone who might have an issue when it comes to problem gambling, it’s important to talk to someone about it. There are hotlines that you can call and get yourself some help. This is a very real problem, and one that people often try to hide or cover up. That response does not solve anything. Make that call if you think this might be an issue.
Other Considerations
We are used to DraftKings having one of the largest selections of contests of any other daily fantasy sports site out there. This isn’t likely to change, but it might take time before multiple sports and types of bets are offered. Online sports betting is still in its early stages of legality in the U.S., and it’s unclear how long it will take for these features to be implemented on the site. We do know that DraftKings is committed to giving their clients a great experience and that they want to do everything that they can to keep contests fair and competitive. There’s no indication that this philosophy will change for betting.
Finally, it’s important to remember that DraftKings and FanDuel have both been trustworthy sites over the years. When new services are offered online, it’s common to see inferior or scam sites pop up, too. Using a site that you know and trust will help you to stay safe in this area. DraftKings has never let us down and has always maintained high standards–they will continue to do so in this new area, too.
Stay Tuned!
This is an exciting development for sports fans. There are likely to be many developments in this front over the coming weeks and months. We will keep you updated on our end here, so be sure to check back often to learn more about DraftKings, FanDuel, and sports betting in general. If you want to learn more directly from the sites themselves, head over to their information page. Here, you can sign up by email for online sports betting updates as they become available.
